International Artist in Residence Exhibition

International Artist in Residence Project is a major event which has been held annually since 2009 during the Digital Art Festival, Taipei. Revolving around the axis of digital art, this project provides Taiwanese and foreign artists with not only favorable opportunities for reciprocal residency and exchange but also direct access to the resource trinity of “residency, origination and exhibition” in one take. The Artist in Residence Project at the Centre National de Création Musicale, Lyon (GRAME) is about to enter its 7th year. The project invited Taiwanese new media artist Yen-Tzu Chang and French budding sound artist Igor Keltchewsky, who is recommended jointly by GRAME and École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon, to present their tours de force at the 11th Digital Art Festival Taipei this year. As an interactive installation, Chang’s work Imprint of City features the synchronicity of tactile and auditory senses, ingeniously transforming the urban hustle and bustle into the surface texture of rock and leaving the rest to the spectators’ imagination. Inspired by the digital world depicted in science fictions and computer graphics of the 1980s and the 1990s, Keltchewsky’s work Copper Veins takes the form of a video game with a fabricated digital world as its background. This work entails a combination of game and musical composition. The specific notes and chords created by the players at each level will be recorded as part of the incidental music, rendering this work a perfect fusion of amusement, experiment and origination.
