Chang, Yung-Ta【vol.4 Y Phenomenon vol.4】

We live in a world full of replica and re-presentation; we are also accustomed to taking these replica and re-presentation for granted. The ‘Original’ is no longer important, because people believe what they are shown to see and hear. Life is inundated with a plethora of sounds, noises, environmental sounds, sounds of people etc. By recording these sounds, the intention is not to emphasize environmental sound, or its musical characteristic, it is merely to test the possibility of listening to environmental sound after re-presenting it as noise. Y Phenomenon represents the sound samples collected in Yamaguchi, Japan. The samples include a paper shredder, printer, human sounds, a local TV program, local radio station, environmental sounds (natural sounds, wind, rain, water, insects) and transportation noise. The linkage and insinuation of re-presentation and original is removed, and the sounds are reconstructed to form a virtual audio field which intersects with space.
