The year 2012 marked the beginning of the digital TV era in Taiwan, announcing digital technology’s incorporation into the core of our daily lives. As a hotbed of high-tech, Taiwan boasts an abundance of technical talent and innovation. Here, consumers welcome and adopt new technology and high tech products quickly, and actively embrace the incorporation of high tech elements in dance, drama, music and visual art.
The quickening pace of the times and technological advancement underscores the importance and value of culture. This year, in pursuit of its vision for shaping Taipei into a cultural and creative city, the Taipei city government is fully committed to competing for the honor of 2016 World Design Capital. We hope that the pursuit of technological innovation and urban development will continue to enrich citizens’ lives and enhance our cultural uniqueness.
The deepening of the bonds between digital technology and art enables a more exciting, diverse viewing experience, prompting reflection on the relationships between technology and modern lives. In addition to greater convenience, what changes does digital technology bring when it becomes an integral part of our lives? And how does it shape or alter our hearts and minds? These crucial questions deserve attention as we aim for better urban development and technological information.
Organized annually by the Taipei city government since 2006, the Digital Art Festival Taipei provides new ground for technology and art to meet and spark innovation. Under the theme “Artificial Nature”, the 7th Digital Art Festival Taipei 2012 gathers an unprecedented group of renowned and promising digital artists, both from home and abroad, to showcase their latest works. Here, artists explore how the boundaries between “natural” and “artificial” have become indistinguishable and reshaped in the age of virtual technology. This exciting event places the interdisciplinary creativity of artists, performers and industry in the spotlight, bringing new possibilities and eye-opening interpretations to art.
