A Word from the Commissioner
Rapidly-developing digital technology transcends time and space, opening up a wider world of living. As technology evolves and progresses, so does our experience of reality. For artists, digital art is a familiar medium. In the digital age, digital art goes beyond the use of digital tools to involve reflection and consideration of technology and the human condition. This year, the Digital Art Festival Taipei returns under the theme “Artificial Nature” to explore the new territory between technology and nature through the innovative ideas of selected digital artists.
Retaining the five featured sections of previous events, namely International Digital Art Exhibition, Digital Art Awards, Creative Forum, Digital Art Performances and Digital Art Platform, the seventh Digital Art Festival Taipei outshines its predecessors with more diverse invitees to present a richer range of art forms and types to expand the imagination and enhance the exploration of digital art.
The most notable feature of the 7th DAF is its broad diversity. Reflecting on “artificial nature”, the International Digital Art Exhibition boasts a collection of unusual works on themes ranging from tree rings to mechanical forests, buzzing flies to crows and flowing water. Newly added exhibits include DVJ performances in VJ Battle Zone, which combines sound experiments and video, along with the Spanish Video Art Exhibition and Art of Video Games. The Applied Technology Exhibition, conceived in a partnership with Microsoft Taiwan, guides visitors to rediscover technology’s possibilities. In addition, the Hi-Tech Creative Products Exhibition demonstrates the competitiveness of Taiwan’s design and cultural creative industries.
The Digital Art Center Taipei, founded in 2009 by the Department of Cultural Affairs, is tasked with the annual planning and presentation of the Digital Art Festival Taipei. As a major force for nurturing and attracting digital art and innovation, and a key platform linking industry and academia with the world of art, the event can help transform Taipei into Asia’s top creative force.
