Computers were designed to produce some noises or sounds such as the buzzing during booting and the humming of cooling fans that indicate their status. They interacted and communicated with the users through these sounds. In the course of time, users’ habits have changed significantly, consigning these riveting sounds to oblivion as the language of a minority group.
In recent years, the design of computers has been modified substantially to meet users’ needs. The consequence became apparent that not only users’ behavior has changed, but the language that computers use to communicate with users has also faded into history.
The artist assembled the computer components into the work Feeding/Entrance from memory. It is an assembled monster craving for audio information. It tries to digest the sounds produced by the viewers and give feedback to them accordingly. This work not only laments the loss of the language shared by computers and human beings, but also expresses the fear about being devoured and conditioned by the explosion of information in the technological era.
