The Art of Video Games held annually during the Digital Art Festival Taipei has entered its fourth year. Since its initiation in 2012, the exhibition has addressed different themes such as audio-visual philosophy, multiple perspectives, as well as mobile carriers and interfaces. This year, the curatorial theme of this exhibition reflects its original concern, that is, the forms of reading and understanding.
The problem that “modern people do not read anymore” has become an elephant in the room. Such a lamentation applies equally in the case of video game players. In the digital torrent where thousands of new video games are released every day, players might have forgotten why the games are riveting to them. They are unable to explore the connotations and allusions in video games, let alone their cultural and artistic heritage.
The Art of Video Games 2015 organizes different programs and films according to the subjects of recently released video games. The presentation of moving scenery and audio-visual effects are combined with the textual introduction and audio explanation. Surrounding the players, sharers, and listeners is therefore a touching atmosphere that vibrates with words, sounds and images. The visitors will understand why these video games are so fascinating through personal observation, experience and comprehension.
