“Way out”, inspired by Alone Together by Sherry Turkle, is a reflection of modern life in this digital age. The exaggerated contrast between emotionless citizens and characterized phones reveals our over-dependence on virtual communication. A dramatic and extreme consequence shows a negative attitude, for which no one can escape the trend of technology that originally comes from the endless appetence of human beings.

From Curators

“Way out” is a colorful hand-drawing animation. The work discusses that after the invention of iPhone in 2007, smartphones are increasingly used and become one of the digital technology products changing our life. Through diverse shots, the work describes smartphone addicts tapping away on their phone to interact with others. As convenience of digital technology progress, the story eventually reveals human’s existence is replaced by devices.
