The objectives of the Department of Applied Music are to groom arts workers capable of integrating music with other diverse arts. As such the Department actively participates and studies development trends in this area in Taiwan. This year, “Southern wave 2” is privileged to have been invited by “The 3rd Digital Art Festival Taipei 2008” to join in its exhibitions. The Department intends to utilize its teaching and student resources and work with several digital artists to jointly develop a “digital interactive installation” as its participating entry. The Department will present the said “digital interactive installation” together with its original musical composition at the Opening Ceremony of the Digital Art Festival. The program planning and music composition are undertaken by the Department’s teacher in Creative Section, while the computer program, mechanical design and construction of the “digital interactive installation” will be undertaken by two artists from “Logico-Studio”.

“Southern wave 2: Concealment Space” is planned by the Department of Applied Music, Tainan National University of the Arts. The Department specializes in the training of music composition, administration and engineering professionals with a view to raise the quality of applied music within Taiwan so that music is integrated with the society. The Department aims to lay a solid foundation for development of applied music in Taiwan, by placing equal emphasis on theory and practice of applied music which is closely connected with the national culture.

Department of Chinese Music, Tainan National University of the Arts
The Department of Chinese Music was founded in 1998. In addition to teaching and grooming students on playing Chinese musical instruments, the Department also aims to foster the students' cultural education. Through seven years of learning and studying musical instruments; orchestral playing and professional topical studies as well as learning of humanistic arts and social services through music, etc. students will graduate to become professional musicians with considerable learning and character.

The Department of Music was founded in 1997 and was the first college in Taiwan to offer seven-year course in any discipline. The Department which is also the first of its kind in music is aimed at grooming professional musicians with performance skills and outstanding scholarship abilities. To-date the Department has accepted students studying piano and string instruments. Four batches of students have already graduated with distinction. Since 2006 the Department began accepting students in wind instruments and beginning in 2007 the Department began accepting students in percussion music.

“Logico-Studio”
“Logico-Studio” is a well-known digital arts studio founded by several talented arts workers headed by Chih-Chien Chen and Llunc Lin. It is known for its prodigious output. The Studio’s works have been exhibited in places like the U.S. (New York), Japan, Korea and Indonesia, etc. Chen and Lin both have rich experience in exhibition works. The Studio operates in equal parts as a creative and commercial operation. Creatively it is inclined towards audio-visual interactive displays and performance, while commercially it concentrates mainly on interactive digital media installations.
